New Zealand Police to Drive ŠKODA SUPERBS

ŠKODA is thrilled to be the preferred Prime 1 Patrol Vehicle for the New Zealand Police force. Rolling out over 2,000 vehicles – mostly ŠKODA SUPERB Station Wagons – beginning in April, the new vehicles have dominated the evaluation testing and are ready to report for duty.

Why Did the New Zealand Police Choose ŠKODA?

The New Zealand Police were forced to find a new vehicle provider when Holden owner, General Motors, announced the end of the Holden brand for the Australasian market. Kicking off an extremely thorough tender and selection process, the Police received 27 vehicle submissions from seven suppliers. To our delight, but not surprise, the ŠKODA SUPERB topped their list.

Why? The Police noted that the SUPERBS felt “safe and confident,” allowed for ample space, had large doors, easy-to-read instruments, and excellent front and rear visibility.

Vehicles were evaluated on three different topics. 20% based on non-price attributes, such as servicing and emissions, 40% on physical testing, and the total cost of ownership rounding out the last 40%.

ŠKODA in New Zealand

ŠKODA is a trusted brand for emergency services in Europe and the UK, with over 23,000 vehicles operating in these positions, so our resume shined. The most awarded car company in the world (don’t believe us? Here are a few), the brand is certainly up for the challenge here in New Zealand.

We’re excited about what this means for the future of the brand in New Zealand. ŠKODA has experienced a major transformation since falling under Volkswagen’s wing in 1991, flourishing ever since. We can only imagine that this partnership will bring bigger and better things.

“This is a defining moment for SKODA New Zealand. To be selected as the preferred vendor for the NZ Police demonstrates our ability for SKODA to offer quality and affordable mobility solutions for all New Zealanders. We look forward to playing our role in helping the NZ Police keep our communities safe.”

Meet the SUPERB

If it’s good enough for the Police, it’s good enough for you, right? The SUPERB Station Wagons is a force to be reckoned with, embracing luxury and practicality under its very capable exterior.

The capabilities are endless with the 206kW TSI 7-speed engine and 4WD. The vehicle features progressive steering, offering a unique hands-on experience, while the connectivity on the interior makes the Superb feel like a mini-office. Complete with a 9.2” colour LCD touchscreen, a digital dash above the sports steering wheel, and Smartlink+, allows a clean connection to your phone via Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink™.

Not to mention, the ŠKODA SUPERB came out on top for its green initiatives. The updated fleet will lower the Police’s fleet CO2 emissions by nearly 39%.
