Explore Škoda Safety Features
One of Škoda’s top priorities is for the development of Škoda cars to offer you and everyone on board the maximum possible level of safety. Škoda models are equipped with the most advanced safety equipment, actively preventing accidents from occurring and protecting occupants effectively in the case of an accident. All new Škoda models have been awarded the maximum 5-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests.
Despite having all this advanced technology at our reach, it is still important for you as the driver to know the basic and not-so-basic principles of safe driving. That includes understanding how to make the best use of safety assistant systems.
Explore and learn about the safety systems you can find in the latest Škoda models below.
Adaptive lane assist
The Škoda’s Adaptive Lane Guidance function ensures your vehicle stays within the chosen lane. This feature aids the driver by making slight active steering inputs, meaning the system turns the steering wheel as needed. The system is based on the use of a camera to recognise not only standard white lines but also temporary yellow road markings and other lane or road boundaries.
A more advanced version of Lane Assist, Adaptive Lane Guidance, can keep the vehicle in the middle of the lane without weaving. However, even when using this assistance function, drivers must maintain full focus on driving and keep their hands on the steering wheel.
Adaptive cruise control
This feature combines the cruise control system with a radar-based distance controller. It maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead at a selected speed, controlling the engine and actuating the brakes to automatically accelerate or decelerate as needed.
Front and turn assist
An advanced system designed to monitor the distance from the vehicle ahead, including automatic slowing down and braking, and to warn the driver of the danger of collision or, if a collision is inevitable, minimise its consequences by braking. It also detects if a pedestrian or cyclist dangerously attempts to cross the path of the car, using a sophisticated signal evaluation algorithm.
Side assist
With the aid of two radar systems positioned at the rear of the vehicle, the Side Assist feature can identify approaching vehicles from behind or present in the car’s blind spot. The driver receives timely information through LED signals located on the inner edge of the wing mirror housings. In comparison to the conventional Blind Spot Detect, which covers a range of up to 20 m, the Side Assist extends its detection capability up to 70 m. This expanded range allows for effective warnings to the driver concerning potential hazards on motorways and dual carriageways.
Area view
Area View allows you to observe the immediate surroundings of your car on the radio/navigation screen. This feature is facilitated by four cameras strategically positioned to offer an all-around view. Through digital processing, real-time images from these cameras are displayed on the infotainment screen. The front and rear cameras employ 180° wide-angle lenses, which effectively extend your field of vision by an additional 90° on each side, covering areas to the left and right of the car’s foremost and rearmost points.
Area View offers a diverse range of perspectives and views, providing valuable assistance in various traffic situations, particularly during parking, attaching a trailer, reversing, or off-road driving.
Dynamic chassis control
The dynamic chassis control system assesses and reacts to different driving scenarios (such as braking, accelerating, and turning) while adapting the damping characteristics.
The damping force of every shock absorber is constantly assessed and modified in both directions of wheel movement. This adjustment is made based on the input data and aligned with the selected driving mode (Sport/Comfort/Normal), independently for each wheel. The primary input parameter is the driver’s chosen mode, and the vehicle’s electronics adjust its behavior accordingly.
The Dynamic Chassis Control is available for the Škoda Octavia, Škoda Superb, Škoda Karoq and Škoda Kodiaq.
